Sine many years Garz & Fricke - one of the leading vendors of embedded HMIs - has shipped their systems in combination with the open source Qt-Graphics-Framework. As of now the Hamburg-based technology-company is official distributor of the Qt Company and enabled to offer the commercial licenses of the Qt-productportfolio bundled with their systems.
In the sense of a perfect „One-Stop-Shopping“ this allows an even more intense consulting at the project start and during the design-in phase. By the closer cooperation of the Qt-experts and the Garz & Fricke system-specialists an optimized technical support can be offered as well.
As a toolkit which makes life for GUI-designers much easier Qt is the perfect add on for the mostly customized systems offered by Garz & Fricke and allows customers a much quicker time-to-market for their application. The commercial license releases the device OEM-manufacturer from typical obligations when using the open source licenses (LGPLv3). So usually the end-user of an open-source version has the right to get a well-documented access to the core of the device with all installation rights for exchanging open source components on their own at any time. The commercial license enables the OEM vendor to protect their devices from unwanted access by a so called „Device Lock“.
Besides the hardware-development and inhouse-production Garz und Fricke is specialized on OS – and graphics-library adoptions. On LINUX-basis (with Yocto) and bundled with Qt Garz & Fricke ship their product in a way, that application engineers don’t need to care too much about the perfect interaction between the OS-drivers and the hardware. They can virtually start right out-of-the-box put their main focus on the application itself.
